Although at Batesy Skip Hire we aim to provide our customers with the best prices possible for our skip hire, we know a key way for you to save money is to make the best use of the skip you have hired rather than underestimating how much refuse space you need and being a position where you have to hire another. If overfilled then it can cause issues for our staff for they have to level the load before they can take it away so they can comply with the law.
1. Know exactly what you can and cannot put into your skip
You can’t put hazardous rubbish in the skip since it can contain anything harmful that causes problems. Gas cylinders, electrical equipment, batteries, fluorescent bulbs and other items shouldn’t be disposed of in skips. Although you may arrange to have these removed separately, it will be easier for you if you are aware of the restrictions. Rifling through your entire skip to find such items will be an arduous task.
Please check out our FAQs page for a complete list of what you may not put into your skip.
2. Break down larger waste items
Skip buildup is an issue when larger items are thrown in, such as furniture, solid garden trash, or windows and doors. If you can only fit smaller skip sizes, breaking these objects down into piles of pieces will increase the capacity of your skip. Breaking down items also frees up room for more helpful items while discarding only the unneeded parts and not the entire thing. The weight and level within your skip will also be evened out by breaking down the things.
3. Arrange your waste efficiently
It may seem logical to put heavier objects at the bottom of the skip first, but this is a far more wasteful strategy. Instead, concentrate on getting rid of bigger, lighter items first so that heavier refuge may be added to them later. As you fill up your skip, you’ll see that the heavier objects will gradually free up more room, pushing the lighter rubbish down towards the bottom, resulting in less wasted space all around!
4. Let sand dry before disposing of it
Wet sand can significantly increase the weight and bulk of a loaded skip. This presents a challenge since the maximum loading queue for sand is smaller than for garden waste and garage clutter. To reduce the ultimate weight and put more into the skip, wait for damp sand to dry before loading.
